6 hits weren't enough

Updated Monday June 3, 2019 by Kanata Baseball Association.

In the second half of the double header Coleman led off the game with a nice single followed by two stolen bases had him standing at 3rd base quickly. Coleman was able to steal home on a passball to give the Cubs their first run of the game. Unfortunately the next three batters were sent down in order courtesy of the strikeout. Hunter was on the mound and off the first batter immediately got an out as he got a comebacker to himself and he flipped it to AB at 1st for the first out. The next batter walked and was aggressive on the paths and stole 2 bases and found himself at 3rd. The run came in to score on a pickoff error. A Fly ball to Aidan in CF gave the cubs their second out. A grounder to Mason at short who fired to AB who made a great scoop and hung on to the ball for the 3rd out. AB was stepped on in the process and was replaced at 1st by Cameron. Game remains tied.

In the second the cubs were not able to get any hits and were sent with 3 up and 3 down with two strikeouts. Hunter was able to get the first batter with the strikeout but a couple of walks to the next two batters would cost the Cubs as a single to the next batter to left field had one run in. That spelled the end of Hunters day and Jacob took over on the mound. A ground ball off of jacob's glove mason was able to grab at short and fire across to Cameron for out number 2. Surge would score on the play from 3rd. Jacob got a strikeout of the next batter to end the inning. Cubs trail Surge 3-1/

In the 3rd inning the Cubs were looking to get the sticks going. After a strikeout the Cubs had two back to back hits by Owen L and connor. Unfortunately the Cubs couldnt bring them around to score this inning as the Surge pitcher was able to get 2 more strikeouts. Jacob managed to do the same against the Surge as he mowed down the competition with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in this inning.

In the 4th inning it was more of the same for the Cubs unfortunately as they were only able to get a base hit from AB. After Aidan was hit in the back by a pitch but 2 strikeouts in the inning had the Cubs at a disadvantage. Connor Wilson came on to pitch the 4th inning. A single to right field Thomas came up quickly throwing just missing getting the out at 1st base. After a walk and a HBP the bases were loaded and Connor got the next batter with a strikeout. The next batter hit into a field choice the Scot picked up cleanly and fired home to Owen P to stop the run from scoring. The third out came from a soft comebacker to Connor who fired over to Goldie at first for the 3rd out.

The 5th inning the Cubs bats needed to come alive. A lead off walk to Owen P had the Cubs in business. Owen took second on a pass ball. Then a single by Owen L for his 2nd hit of the game had Owen P scoring. A hit by Scot had him on. Owen L tried to steal 3rd and was called out on the slide. Connor went back to the mound and after the bases were loaded after two players were HBP and a walk. he was able to get a strikeout for the first out. Connor was able to get a comebacker and he fired home to Owen P for the fielders choice force play at home. Connor ended the inning with a strikeout but that was the end of the day for the Cubs as they fall to the Surge.
