Kanata Cubs Peewee (13U)

Hitting Homework

Please review before next practice

Updated Monday June 17, 2019 by Kanata Baseball Association.

Great tournament this past weekend!  The coaches observed that we were evenly matched and were competitive in each of our games.  More importantly, it was good to see the players getting to know each other better and continuing to bond as a team.

Although our hitting struggled at times, we are continuing to improve!  Our statistics show that we are being more aggressive at the plate, looking at less called third strikes, striking out far less than we did at the beginning of our season and best of all, hitting more balls into play.   Now it is time for us to focus on the quality of our batted balls.

In preparation for Thursday’s practice, please review the following:

  1. Watch this video on the basics of hitting:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7CPS0RYDPM
  2. Review the image on the 7 checkpoints to hitting the ball at contact.  How many are you achieving? (Right click on picture and open in new tab.  Coaches will bring a printout for you at next practice)
  3. Review these slow-motion videos of MLB hitters.  Watch their load, stride, contact and follow through.  How many of the 7 checkpoints do all these different hitters achieve?   https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhNiwTktFkxWhoOTLcvNDp4-ongKMfpnP

Thanks from your Coaches,
Russ, Dan, David, Jim and Sean
